Baby & kids mattresses: practical checks, no scare tactics

Start with the correct size and current safe-sleep guidance, then evaluate firmness, cleanability, materials and certification.

Safety note

Mattresses do not prevent or treat medical conditions. Follow current CPSC/AAP guidance and your pediatrician for infant sleep setup.

Crib mattress basics

  • Use a crib mattress with a snug fit and firm, flat surface.
  • Keep the infant sleep space bare except for a fitted sheet, following current guidance.
  • Check age/stage directions for dual-sided designs.
  • Review cleaning instructions and waterproofing.
  • Verify certification for the exact model.

What Naturepedic publicly offers

Naturepedic lists certified organic crib mattresses in lightweight, innerspring and two-stage constructions. Its Breathable Organic 2-Stage page describes a removable washable layer, an underlying waterproof surface and infant/toddler sides. Details can change.

“Breathable” describes construction; it is not a guarantee against sleep-related injury.

Moving to a kids mattress

For older children, focus on bed size, supportive feel, cleanability, materials and budget. Naturepedic currently lists options including the 2-in-1 Waterproof Organic Kids Mattress and Verse Organic Kids Mattress.
